I was playing St John's Passion last week - it is such a favourite of mine - and James Gilchrist was singing the part of the Evangelist. I was amazed by his stance, so rooted to the ground but so free in his movements. He sung with such beauty and spontaneity. A real inspiration to me, reminding me to allow the sound to soar totally naturally, with nothing blocking the flow; totally at ease, like a tree yielding in the breeze. Even just raising my arms up to the sky brings a new confidence and stance, lifting my mood, relaxing the sound of my voice, opening my heart and allowing the body to resonate. A quick fix to total alignment, bringing the soul back in touch with the greater part of who we are.
