Comet in the Cosmos

It feels so exciting to hear about the comet arriving in our Cosmos. Check out this link and keep a look out in these December winter skies. A great way to connect with the vastness of our universe.

I listened to a new CD today; it reminded me of the importance of space in music: space between the notes, space within chords, the use of silence, space within rhythm. How wonderful it is to see the horizon, to have space around us, to hear silence in conversation, to enjoy the expanse of stillness between each feeling. It is in that place that spirit can shine through.

I am discovering a deeper way of breathing; a breath that includes our peripheral vision; wide, still, expansive; a breath that reaches the sides of the aura, that takes its energy from deep inside the earth. It is perfect for those long phrases in Bach -  in the Partita, in Ich Folle from John's Passion, and in the solo violin Sonatas & Partitas which I am exploring. It's great for for my teaching bringing stillness and focus and it brings me into a wide place of awareness.

Cotton Grass

This is one of my favourite Alaskan Essences, Cotton Grass. It is out covering the foot of the moor near where I live, like a cosy duvet, blowing gently in the breeze. It brings great comfort. Just looking at the plant can bring me to tears.

Three Meditations

Three Meditations is now available from iTunes or you can listen and download here. I am continuing to explore the healing powers within sound. Enjoy!

I have been working over the last few weeks on two concertos by Vivaldi and Bach, La Notte and Brandenburg 4: such amazing rhythmic joy and energy that have stood the test of time and still sound fresh and youthful. I'll be performing them both tomorrow night in the sacred space of St Martin's in the Fields, just in front of its great contemporary window.

Blue Mountains

Fond memories of touring in the states while playing Copland today. The duo opens with solo flute which echoes into the vastness of the landscape.

I was gardening outside the back door just over a week ago and I found this rare dormouse rolled up in a pouch of leaves, woven together like a ball of wool. Extraordinary storms today; the new leaves are just starting to come out up on Dartmoor.

Tiny Planet

I loved this; take a look.
** Tiniest planet yet found with sound **
Astronomers spot the smallest-yet planet outside our Solar System, thanks to measurements of the sound waves within the planet's host star. >

Shooting Stars

Still a few more days to enjoy all the shooting stars above us; magic that lifts my soul and connects me to the expanse and the vastness. A great way to bring the new year in.
